CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
May 9, 2007 – Free shuttle service from local hotels and outlying parking lots at Southeast Missouri State University will be provided on Saturday, May 12, for guests planning to attend Southeast commencement exercises at the Show Me Center.
University officials say shuttle service will be provided to comfortably accommodate all guests since parking for commencement at the Show Me Center will be significantly limited this year due to construction of the Student Aquatic Center and of the next phase of the Multi-Modal Transfer Facility, both on the west side of the Show Me Center.
Commencement guests will be directed to park in available spaces in the Show Me Center lots until they are full, said Beth Glaus, manager of parking and transit. Guests will then be redirected to park in lots at Towers residence hall complex on North Sprigg Street, Robert A. Dempster Hall at the corner of Henderson and New Madrid, and on the east and west sides of Henderson Street between Cheney Drive and Dunklin Street.
Shuttle service will be provided for guests who park in these lots, in addition to those staying at local hotels and those transported by Cape County Transit to their shuttle stop at the Student Recreation Center-South. Shuttles will run from about noon until 2:15 p.m. for pick-up. Shuttles will then return to the Show Me Center to be ready to return guests to their hotels or their vehicle parked in outlying University lots when commencement ends, Glaus said.
Southeast’s W.I.N.G.S. shuttle busses will pick up commencement guests about every 20 minutes from noon to 2:15 p.m. at the following Cape Girardeau hotels: Pear Tree Inn, Drury Lodge, Hampton Inn/Drury Inn and Suites, Holiday Inn Express and Victorian Inn. W.I.N.G.S. shuttle busses also will stop at the main entrance to West Park Mall to transport guests to commencement.
Guests are encouraged to begin boarding shuttles at their earliest convenience. Doors to the Show Me Center concourse areas will be open most of the day. Doors to the arena will open for commencement at 12:30 p.m.
Concession stands will be open for sandwich meals and snacks from noon until 1:30 p.m. Beverages will be available from noon until about 3:30 p.m.
When commencement exercises conclude, guests who caught the W.I.N.G.S. shuttles at local hotels or at the West Park Mall will use the W.I.N.G.S. busses to return to those points. W.I.N.G.S. busses will be waiting at the front entrance of the Show Me Center on the east side of the building to return guests to their hotels or to West Park Mall.
Southeast shuttle busses also will be waiting in the same location to return guests to their vehicles parked in outlying University lots. Shuttle stops will be designated in front of the Show Me Center for return service to the Towers lot, the Robert A. Dempster lot and the lots along Henderson Street. Guests may refer to their shuttle reminder card as they exit the Show Me Center and prepare to leave campus, Glaus said.
Shuttles will be available to return commencement guests to their vehicles, hotels or the mall until the last guest has left the premises. For up-to-the-minute parking information, visitors are asked to tune to campus radio station KDMC 103.7 FM between noon and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. The broadcast is provided courtesy of the student group, National Broadcasting Society, and will include parking information and directions as well as music.
