CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 21, 2011 — Six Recreation Services student employees at Southeast Missouri State University were honored and are sharing the “Employee of the Month” award for their service during a crucial time in March.
The six employees, all intramural sports employees for the department, assisted with unpacking and uncrating a new indoor dasher board system the department ordered. These individuals also assisted one week later to re-pack and move the system, weighing thousands of pounds, to the eventual facility in which it will be installed.
The students honored were:•Chris Althage, a junior from St. Louis•David Meyer, a senior from St. Louis•Aaron Pippin, a senior from LaPlata, Mo.•Robert Shanahan of O’Fallon, Mo.•Josh Shimkus of Imperial, Mo.•Corey Zinkl of St. Louis, Mo.
“These students had a tough task of off-loading and then in a quick change of plans, on-loading and delivering this large and very heavy system on campus to another location. They never complained and did a great job, many of them putting aside their own personal plans to assist the department,” said Troy Vaughn, director of Recreation Services.
The Employee of the Month award is given monthly to deserving undergraduate students who excel in their performance on the job. The Recreation Services Student Employee of the Month is the highest achievement award given to Recreation Services student employees for going “above and beyond” the normal call of duty to assist the program, patrons and users of the recreational facilities.
The Department of Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University employees more than 160 students and is the largest student employer on campus. For more information on student employment or the Department of Recreation Services, visit www.semo.edu.
