CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 28, 2014 – Entrepreneurs interested in starting their own business or expanding an existing business are invited to a no-charge training opportunity with other aspiring entrepreneurs March 11 in Cape Girardeau courtesy of the Douglas C. Greene Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Southeast Missouri State University.
The six week course, Operation JumpStart (OJS), is a nationally-recognized, highly- successful training model designed for individuals who are considering starting or expanding a small business. The OJS program uses the curriculum Operation JumpStart First Step from the nationally known Kauffman Foundation which teaches participants essential business planning and preparation skills like product pricing, legal structure, competition, marketing, and cash flow management with the goal of developing a feasibility plan to start or expand a business. In addition, course participants will receive one-on-one business counseling with a professional business development consultant from the Small Business and Technology Development Center.
Operation JumpStart will begin on Tuesday, March 11, and will meet every Tuesday and Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. until April 17 at the CIE at 920 Broadway in Cape Girardeau. The entrepreneurial program has been instrumental in assisting more than 650 individuals who have started or expanded over 250 small businesses in southeast Missouri and elsewhere.
The OJS program, offered at no charge to entrepreneurs in surrounding communities, is made possible with funding from the CIE, the Delta Regional Authority, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Missouri Small Business Technology Development Center, Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Small Business Administration. Programs are extended to the public on a non-discriminatory basis.
