Southeast Department of Music Announces Free Classical Guitar Concert Dec. 5

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 16, 2006 — The Department of Music at Southeast Missouri State University will present the Southeast Guitar Ensemble in concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 in Brandt Hall Room 205 on the campus. 

The concert is open to the public and is free. 

The concert will feature performances by music students majoring in classical guitar at the University.  The full Guitar Ensemble will open the program with a set of Renaissance dances by Michael Praetorius.  Other large ensemble works will include a lullaby by Isaac Albeniz and a four-part concerto by Georg Philipp Telemann. Guitar duos will play movements from a Baroque suite and from a contemporary suite by Leo Brouwer. Solo guitarists will offer works ranging from the Baroque to contemporary South America.  These include a Baroque dance suite by Anton Logy and two concert preludes by Heitor Villa Lobos.
