CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 16, 2012 — The Southeast Missouri State University Guitar Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. May 2 in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast’s River Campus.
The program will feature works for guitar quartet and several guitar solos. As a quartet, the Ensemble will play a wide variety of works, beginning with two pieces by the famous Spanish composer, Federico Moreno Torroba, “La Boda” and “Remanso.” Early in the semester, the Ensemble performed “La Boda” for the world’s best known guitar quartet, Los Romeros, in St. Louis. The Ensemble will also play two very exciting South American pieces, “Grises y Soles,” by Maximo Diego Pujol, and “A Furiosa,” by Paulo Bellinati. Solos by Fransisco Tarrega, J.S. Bach, Fernando Sor and others will be performed.
The Southeast Guitar Ensemble is made up of Joel Kapp, Logan Ward, Jake Tropf and Jacob Seyer, who are committed to performing works from throughout the history of the guitar in an exciting and genuine way. The ensemble has been active since 1998 and is directed by Patrick Rafferty.
