CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 29, 2008 — The National History Day in Missouri district contest will once again be hosted by Southeast Missouri State University March 7 in the University Center.
About 500 junior high and high school students from Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Iron, Madison, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, Stoddard, Washington and Wayne counties will be competing for the chance to advance to the state National History Day competition April 12 in Columbia, Mo.
The theme for History Day 2008 is “Conflict and Compromise in History,” and students will compete in one of five categories: exhibit, media, performance, historical paper or Web sites.
Project judging will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the University Center. An awards ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. in Academic Hall Auditorium.
