Southeast Hosts Entrepreneurial Forum Oct. 2

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Sept. 26, 2003 – The MBA Association, the Harrison College of Business and the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Southeast Missouri State University are sponsoring an entrepreneurial forum Thursday, Oct. 2 from 5:15 to 7 p.m. in Glenn Auditorium of Robert A. Dempster Hall.

A reception will follow.

The forum will feature three guest entrepreneur panelists who will be speaking on the topic “Life and Career as an Entrepreneur.”  Michael Doran, Douglas Greene and James Scherer all worked in corporate America and then went on to create their own successful enterprises.

Doran was employed by Phelps Dodge Copper Product Corporation, Reliance Telecommunications Electronics Company and Continental Telephone.  He eventually began a career of helping smaller companies in the areas of strategic and operational planning.

Greene served as a national buyer for Sears Roebuck and Co. for many years.  Out of that experience, he later partnered or owned nine different entrepreneurial ventures.  He is most noted for his invention of the remote control fireplace system.  He currently is president and owner of four different business ventures.

An alumnus of Southeast, Scherer worked for the Maytag Corporation for many years.  He later opened his own appliance store.  He eventually added other locations and began to target the market of up-scale name-brand appliances.  He also has developed a very successful real estate investment/ development company.

Moderating the forum will be Dr. Jack Sterrett, professor of marketing and chair of the Department of Management and Marketing.

Sterrett says, “The primary purpose of this forum is to provide our students with more exposure to successful business people,” Sterrett said. “The three panelists invited to campus have truly been successful in business and are significant supporters of entrepreneurship.”

Sterrett encourages all MBA students to attend the forum.

“It will be a great opportunity for students who want to learn how these panelists achieved success,” he says.

A separate forum will be held Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. primarily for undergraduate students.
