CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Dec. 2, 2009 – The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music announces the annual holiday performance by their two highly-acclaimed jazz ensembles Dec. 4 at Buckner Brewing Company in downtown Cape Girardeau.
The restaurant will host the Jazz Lab Band and the Studio Jazz Ensemble on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. This performance coincides with the final First Friday with the Arts program for 2009.
Studio Jazz Ensemble
Southeast’s premier big-band, the Studio Jazz Ensemble, returns to Buckner’s to play some of their favorite tunes. This performance will include many holiday favorites arranged for big bands such as “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “The Christmas Song,” “Let It Snow,” “Winter Wonderland” and many more. The show will feature music for the ensemble which traditionally includes saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section. Featured students are sophomore drum-set soloist Brandon Harvey, junior bassist Jarred Harris, senior guitarist Jon Poston, sophomore tenor sax soloist Spencer Day, freshman trumpeter Nathan Nall, sophomore trombonist Matt Gates and junior alto sax soloist Geoff Huff.
Jazz Lab Band
Also performing in the concert will be Southeast’s Jazz Lab Band. The band is comprised of both music and non-music majors and will be playing a variety of jazz compositions including “Paso Robles,” “A Christmas Medley,” “Cottontail,” “Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans?” and “Basie Barbeque.” Their portion of the program will highlight soloists junior bassist Jason Heeter, freshman trombonist Nathan Scheffler and junior Joe Stacy.
