CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 3, 2011– Southeast Missouri State University’s two highly acclaimed jazz ensembles – Jazz Lab and Studio Jazz – will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. May 6 at Buckner Brewing Company in downtown Cape Girardeau.
CombosThe jazz combos, featuring strong soloists, will kick off the event. These talented young musicians will amaze with their expressive and artistic playing.
Studio Jazz EnsembleThe University’s premier big band, the Studio Jazz Ensemble, returns to Buckner’s playing some of their favorites, including “23 Degrees North,” “Moanin’,” “ Seven Steps to Heaven,” and “Tenor Time,” plus many more. The show will feature music for the big band which traditionally includes saxophones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section. Featured students include drumset soloist Chris Whited (sophomore music major), saxophonist and Concerto competition winner Ethan Flood (junior music major), saxophonist Spencer Day (junior music major), guitarist Bryndon Lee (freshman industrial engineering major), saxophonist Trevor Smith (freshman music major), trumpeter Nathan Nall (sophomore music major), trombonist Matt Gates (junior music major) and Jason Heeter on electric bass (senior music major).
Jazz Lab BandAlso performing at the concert will be the Southeast University’s Jazz Lab Band. This band is comprised of both music and non-music majors and will be playing a variety of jazz compositions including “Caravan,” “Sausalito Strut,” “Blues in the Closet,” “Buffalo Breath” and more. Their portion of the program will be quite exciting as well with solos by Ethan Flood, guitarist Dan Boemeke (sophomore music major), bassist Kyle Clay (freshman music major) and trumpeter Jermal Gray (senior music major).
