The Jazz Ensembles perform a similar event during the holiday season.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 2, 2007 — The Southeast Missouri State University Jazz Ensembles will perform at Buckner’s Brewpub for the final time this semester from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 4.

These ensembles are led by Robert Conger, a professor in the Department of Music.

Studio Jazz is Southeast’s premier jazz ensemble, and is made up of music students from Southeast Missouri State University and plays music written for jazz big band.  The Southeast Jazz Lab Band will start the big band portion of the evening with some fine big band arrangements featuring student soloists in that group.  The night will start off with some softer selections played by a jazz combo made up of students from both ensembles.

The bands will play tunes from the library of the Count Basie Jazz Orchestra, the Buddy Rich Orchestra, and Gordon Goodwin’s “Big Phat Band.”  Many student soloists will be featured throughout the evening.

The performance begins at 8 p.m., and admission is free.  For more information, call Conger at (573) 651-2398.
