Southeast Observes Moment of Silence for Victims of Las Vegas Shooting

Southeast Missouri State University observed a moment of silence in front of Academic Hall at noon on Monday, Oct. 2, as the campus joined the nation in mourning those impacted by the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Southeast faculty, staff and students were on hand as members of Southeast’s Show-Me Gold program lowered the American flag to half-staff and Dr. Timothy Schmidt,

associate professor of music, sang “America The Beautiful.”

Southeast President Carlos Vargas asked those in attendance to keep those affected by Sunday’s tragedy in their thoughts and prayers, and to remember during times likes these “we are one” at Southeast — a place where everyone is welcome — and that we must demonstrate our support and resolve to move forward in the face of this tragedy.
