Southeast President Visits Festus, Northwest High Schools, Encourages Students to Pursue Their Will to Do

Southeast Missouri State University President Dr. Carlos Vargas visited with students, faculty, school counselors and administrators Nov. 29 at Festus and Northwest high schools.

During his visits, Vargas listened to the needs of students while providing information on post-secondary educational opportunities available to them at Southeast. Vargas also hand delivered Southeast admittance packets to students at both schools, encouraging them to explore and channel their strengths and abilities to find success as future college students at Southeast. With commitment, heart and the personal support of the Southeast campus, they will be poised for amazing achievements and extraordinary careers, he told them.

Receiving admittance packets and welcomed to the Redhawk family were Hannah Jones and Kelsi Parker at Festus, and Tyler Bristow and Courtney Shields at Northwest.

Vargas also met with teachers, counselors, principals, and superintendents to discuss their students’ academic and personal needs, as well as how Southeast can help their students reach their future career goals.

Southeast is now accepting applications for the fall 2018 semester, and students are encouraged to apply now to meet the Dec. 1 deadline for early scholarship consideration and on-campus housing. Apply online at semo.edu/apply.

Building on its highest rate of returning students in school history this fall, Southeast encourages incoming students to plan now to attend a Show Me Day on campus Feb. 17 or 19 and April 7. Show Me Day is an opportunity to visit Southeast and learn about the variety of academic programs and services offered.
