Southeast Missouri State University and the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize and commemorate LGBT History Month this October as a community.
“This month is a time for us to not only acknowledge the many historical milestones within the LGBT community, but also a time for us to celebrate the many faculty, staff and students who identify as LGBTQ within the Southeast family,” said Sonia Rucker, assistant to the president for equity and diversity and dean of students at Southeast.
Southeast will offer several activities and projects in observance of LGBT History Month.
For more information about these events, visit the LGBTQ Resources Center at www.semo.edu/campuslife/lgbt and the newly formed LGBTQ+ Employee Alliance at www.semo.edu/equityissues/lgbtq.
“This is our time to not only become educated and aware about the LGBT community, but also for us to show how much we appreciate and value their presence,” Rucker said. “We want every member of the Southeast community to always feel welcomed, respected and appreciated and these annual observances allow us to do so in a special way.”
