Southeast Set to ‘Fall for Dance’ in Upcoming Dance Showcase

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 19, 2009ᾰThe Department of Theatre and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University present “Fall for Dance 2009” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3-4, and 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 pm. on Dec. 5 at the River Campus.  The dance showcase will be presented in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall.   “As the Department of Theatre and Dance continues to grow in both quality and numbers, it has become necessary to present two main stage dance concerts each year,” said Dr. Marc Strauss, professor of theatre and dance and artistic coordinator of “Fall for Dance.”“Fall for Dance 2009” will showcase a wide array of dance styles and choreography from faculty, guest artists and students.“Audiences should expect a concert with a variety of dance styles that draw from classical and contemporary, ballet, jazz, modern, tap, ballroom, hip hop, lyrical and even folk dance with an equally varied choice of accompaniment,” Strauss said.  The dance pieces will range from short to long and upbeat or slow.“A series of dance within the concert can have a loose or unifying theme based on any number of concepts such as music, composers or ideas,” Strauss explained.  “The goal for every concert is to create a rich, stimulating and enjoyable experience for our audiences while showcasing the burgeoning choreographic and performance artistry of our program,” Strauss said.“Fall for Dance 2009” will be an intriguing and diverse compilation of dances, which will captivate all audiences. Strauss said, last year’s “Dance-Apalooza” is now two separate dance concerts- – “Fall for Dance 2009” and the upcoming spring showcase, “Spring into Dance 2010,” in April.  These dance showcases are intended to entertain and promote dance at Southeast.
