CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Dec. 20, 2007 – Nicholas Fiehler, a Southeast Missouri State University senior from Altenburg, Mo., has been awarded a Missouri Concrete Association (MCA) scholarship for the spring 2008 semester.
Fiehler is majoring in construction management and design at Southeast.
With the award, Fiehler receives a $500 scholarship. MCA awards a scholarship each year to a student at two different institutions. The scholarship recipients must be pursuing a degree in a field related to a career in ready mixed concrete related industries.
Fiehler has been employed by Ulrich Concrete Finishers for three years. He began as a laborer and now if often given the responsibility of finishing out floors, he said.
“Because of my time and experience with concrete, I have gotten to know and build relationships with the local ready mix and finishing companies, who often ask me for assistance on their projects,” Fiehler wrote in his scholarship application letter.
Fiehler says the construction management program at Southeast and the experience he has gained with Ulrich Concrete Finishers have made him appreciate the use of concrete and concrete products. He says the scholarship will help finance his education en route to becoming a future construction manager.
