Southeast Student Selected to Receive Gerontological Nursing Student Leadership Award

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Sept. 21, 2009 – Southeast Missouri State University student Jessica Miller of Cape Girardeau has been selected by the National Gerontological Nursing Association to receive a Gerontological Nursing Student Leadership Award.

The award provides registration to their national meeting in St Louis.

Miller was one of just three students selected from the state and will attend the convention Oct. 9-11.

Miller is a student in the baccalaureate program at Southeast Missouri State University and also is employed as an LPN (licensed practical nurse) at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.  She has been active in the local student nurses’ association and has received the Raymond H. and Rosalind J. Vogel scholarship.

“With the continual increase in the need for professional registered nurses to be experts in care of the elderly, this is an exciting educational opportunity for Ms. Miller,” said Dr. Marcia Hobbs, chair of the Southeast Department of Nursing.
