CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., July 30, 2010 — Cape Girardeau is welcoming more than 800 Special Olympic athletes Aug. 13-15 as the City of Cape Girardeau hosts the State Outdoor Championships, with many of the games and activities being held on campus as part of the University’s sponsorship of this event.
The tennis competition is being held at the Redhawks Tennis Complex, and the main dinner and dance is being held in the Student Recreation Center–North. The Games Management Team is looking for Southeast students, faculty or staff who would like to volunteer to assist on campus with these events.
The tennis competition is slated for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, and the dinner/dance for athletes will be from 4:30 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14. Volunteers are needed to assist athletes, serve meals, clean up, and help in many other capacities.
