Southeast Studio Jazz Ensemble Performing May 1

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 27, 2009—The Southeast Missouri State University Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 1, at Buckner’s Brewpub in downtown Cape Girardeau.

This ensemble is led by Robert Conger, director of jazz studies in the Department of Music.

The night will begin with a jazz combo formed by select members of the big band. This group will perform some jazz classics complete with their own brand of improvisation.  

The Studio Jazz Ensemble will follow with a set of their favorite tunes performed throughout the year including hits from the Count Basie Jazz Orchestra as well as the Buddy Rich big band.  Featured musicians in the combo and the big band will include Spencer Day (tenor sax), Geoff Huff (alto sax), Matt Gates (trombone), Ryan Blankenship (trumpet), and Brandon Harvey (drumset).

Also featured will be a set by the Jazz Lab Band from Southeast.   This band will play tunes from their library including selections which feature various musicians within the ensemble.  Featured musicians will include Corey Easley (tenor sax), Alex Martin (trombone), Marcus Verrett (bass), and Justin Martin (trumpet).
