CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 11, 2007 — The Southeast Missouri State University Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform at Buckner’s Brewpub for the first time this semester from 8 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22.

This ensemble is led by Dr. Robert Conger, associate professor in the Department of Music.

The evening will open with a jazz combo made up of students from the ensemble, playing standards such as “Summertime,” “Autumn Leaves” and “Song for My Father.”   Featured students in the Southeast student combo are Michael Harrer, a senior music education major; Jarred Harris, a junior music major; Alex Bettinger, a freshman music major; and Andrew Mitchell, a sophomore music education major.

Studio Jazz, Southeast’s premier jazz ensemble, will take the stage at 9 p.m. playing exciting tunes written for the big band medium.   This band is comprised of music majors from the Department of Music at Southeast, although there are a few non-majors in the group.

The bands will play two sets after the combo performance and play selections from the library of the Count Basie Jazz Orchestra, the Buddy Rich Orchestra, and famous jazz arrangers, including Les Hooper, Thad Jones, Jon Fedchock and Frank Mantooth.  Many student soloists will be featured throughout the evening.

Admission is free.  For more information, call Robert Conger at (573) 651-2398.
