Southeast Missouri State University’s chapter of the Student Missouri State Teachers Association recently received the Outstanding Service Project of the Year Award for their ‘Spring into Literacy Walk’ initiative held on the campus next to Academic Hall this past spring. The project was in collaboration with other student organizations, including the Teachers of Tomorrow, Kappa Delta Pi and the Student Government Association. The Literacy Walk will be an annual event each year for friends and families to guide their children down the walk while reading a large picture book staked along the path. After completing the Literacy Walk, the children receive candy and a free book of their very own made possible by donations from the various organizations. This project goal is to promote literacy and the joy of reading in the community.
