CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 15, 2005 — The Southeast Missouri State University jazz program will perform a jazz concert at 8 p.m. April 30 in Academic Auditorium on the Southeast campus.
This annual spring jazz concert will feature both jazz ensembles: the Jazz Lab band and Southeast’s premier jazz ensemble, Studio Jazz. The Jazz Lab band will perform compositions by Jim Martin, Jerome Richardson and Bob Secor. Their program will include “C Jam Blues” as performed by the Duke Ellington band and will feature several members of the band as soloists.
Studio Jazz will perform compositions by Dizzy Gillespie, Don Menza, Charlie Parker and Les Hooper. Included in the program will be “Groovin’ Hard” as recorded by the Buddy Rich big band and “On Green Dolphin Street” as recorded by the Les Hooper big band. Featured soloists will include Adam Carver on tenor sax, Mike Harrer on alto sax and Steve Stenzhorn on trombone as well as several other members of the band. Both groups are lead by the new Associate Director of Bands at Southeast, Dr. Robert Conger, who also directs the Redhawk Concert Band, music education classes and the low brass studio.
