Students, Parents Visit Regional Campuses, Learn about Southeast A+ Scholarship

SIKESTON, Mo., March 8, 2012 – Prospective students interested in attending Southeast Missouri State University’s regional campuses in Sikeston, Malden and Kennett, Mo., in fall 2012 recently attended dinners at the respective campuses to learn about the Southeast A+ Scholarship and the many resources available to them.

About 55 area high school seniors and their parents, during the past two weeks, took the opportunity to learn about the academic programs, including four-year bachelor’s degree completion programs; services, including free tutoring, access to Kent Library, open computer labs and full-time faculty based at each campus; and the many scholarships offered to them at Southeast’s campuses in Sikeston, Malden and Kennett.

Students met with admissions, financial aid and regional campus advisors during the evening’s events and learned how to activate their Southeast Key.

Lenell Hahn, associate director of Admissions at Southeast, said the regional campuses “are fulfilling the needs of families needing access to education.”

Hahn said Southeast’s regional campuses offer students an affordable option with required fees considerably less than those charged to in-state undergraduates on the main Southeast campus. She also noted the availability of the Southeast A+ Scholarship as an important financial resource for area students. The Southeast A+ Scholarship is a university funded scholarship program for Missouri A+ High School graduates.  

The Southeast A+ Scholarship at Southeast’s regional campuses in Sikeston, Kennett and Malden, Mo., covers incidental, general, technology and maintenance fees for lower level course work after federal and state need-based grants or other awards for incidental or general fees have been applied.

The scholarship is available to high school graduates living in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Butler, Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Ripley, Scott, Stoddard and Wayne counties. Students must be enrolled as a full-time, degree-seeking student at a Southeast regional campus in Kennett, Malden or Sikeston

Students interested in applying for the scholarship should complete the Southeast admissions process and submit a final high school transcript with the A+ Seal. They also should submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA must be completely processed and on the record at Southeast before being certified as eligible for A+ scholarship funding.
