Thirteen Students Receive Endowed Scholarships at KAHEC

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 17, 2005ᾰThirteen students recently were awarded endowed scholarships at the Kennett Area Higher Education Center (KAHEC).  Currently there are eight existing scholarships available for students attending KAHEC.

Raquel Brown, an elementary education major from Kennett, Mo., and April Franks, an elementary education major from Kennett, Mo., received the Sheryl Crow #39 Education Foundation Scholarship.  The scholarship was established by Sheryl Crow, a Kennett native and Grammy Award-winning artist.  It provides the fee for one undergraduate or graduate class offered through KAHEC.  Selection for the scholarship is based upon financial need and connection to the Kennett #39 School District, and recipients must maintain a 2.5 grade point average.

Danielle Brown, an early childhood education major from Hayti, Mo.; Christina Bellers, a general studies major from Piggott, Ark., Jennifer Hellebsuch, an elementary education major from Holcomb, Mo.; and Leticia Morton, an elementary education major from Steele, Mo., received the Kennett National Bank Scholarship.  The scholarship awards undergraduate or graduate students $500 each semester to attend classes at KAHEC.  Recipients must be residents of Dunklin or Pemiscot counties in Missouri or Clay County in Arkansas.  Applicants must submit along with their application a letter of introduction explaining their interests and needs for the scholarship.

Joni Brooks, a secondary education major from Kennett, Mo., received the McDonald’s of Kennett Scholarship.  The scholarship awards $2,000 for one academic year to full-time students who are employed with the McDonald’s of Kennett.  Recipients must be attending KAHEC and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.  Applicants must submit along with their application a letter of introduction explaining their interests and needs for the scholarship.

Jeremy Tidwell, an agriculture major from Bragg City, Mo., received the Harry Bazzell Scholarship.  The scholarship awards $250 for both fall and spring semesters to undergraduate or graduate students attending KAHEC.  Preference is given to employees or children of employees at Bazzell & Wilder; students from Dunklin, Pemiscot or Clay County; and students majoring in agriculture.  Applicants must submit along with their application a letter of introduction explaining their interests and needs for the scholarship.

Debra Haugh, an elementary education major from Cardwell, Mo., received the KAHEC General Endowment Scholarship.  The scholarship awards $250 for the fall and spring semesters to undergraduate or graduate students attending classes at KAHEC.  Recipients must maintain a 2.5 grade point average for renewal of the scholarship.  Applicants must submit along with their application a letter of introduction explaining their interests and needs for the scholarship.

Melanie Bishop, a social work major from Kennett, Mo.; Alissa Buchanan, an early childhood education major from Kennett, Mo.; Nancy Smith, a general studies major from Kennett, Mo.; and Heather Harris, an elementary education major from Kennett, Mo., received the Simcoke Family Scholarship.  The scholarship awards $700 for fall, spring and summer semesters to undergraduate and graduate students attending classes at KAHEC.  Recipients must maintain a 2.5 grade point average for renewal of the scholarship.  Applicants must submit along with their application a letter of introduction explaining their interests and needs for the scholarship.
