CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Nov. 17, 2009 — The Southeast Regional Professional Development Center (RPDC) of the College of Education at Southeast Missouri State University and the Local Area Special Educators (LASE) are sponsoring the Third Annual Transition Fair Thursday, Nov. 19, at the Career and Technology Center of Cape Girardeau.
The fair is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Career and Technology Center, 1080 S. Silver Springs Rd.
The Transition Fair helps high school students with disabilities explore options for transitioning to life beyond high school, including postsecondary education, training, employment options and independent living. Students from throughout Southeast Missouri State University’s service region will be attending, from schools as far north as Ste. Genevieve through the Bootheel area. This program continues to grown, and more than 350 students are expected to attend this year.
The Transition Fair is supported by area agencies and service providers throughout the region, including educational institutions, health care providers, transportation services, legal advisors and insurance providers. These service providers will have information available to students and their parents to help outline the options available beyond high school.
The University is pleased to be able to help these regional service providers assist area high school students plan for this important transition step.
