United Way Campaign Kicks Off Oct. 17

The annual Southeast Missouri State University’s United Way campaign will begin on Oct. 17.  In 2016, Southeast students, faculty and staff contributed $21,152 to the United Way of Southeast Missouri. This rate of giving ranks the University fifth among businesses in southeast Missouri for annual gifts to this vital community organization.  The Southeast Missouri State University United Way Campaign shows the power of each individual and the power  of our community. Your gift will make a meaningful difference to another person in need of support.

Our 2017 goal is participation – we hope that many in our community will choose to support the United Way. The campaign is now paperless – no more packets to sort through and return! To learn more about the 2017 campaign and to make your donation, visit http://semo.edu/unitedway/.  One-time gifts or giving through payroll deduction are welcome..

Southeast employees may designate their gift to a “University Student Emergency Fund.” This fund will provide “just-in time” grants to Southeast students with financial need who are experiencing significant financial burdens that may prevent them from completing their education. We are pleased that 100 percent of donations to this designated fund will be given to students as a grant paid directly to their student account.

What is the United Way? Many people in the communities served by our United Way depend on the generosity of all of us for assistance with basic human needs and services. Funds are used to ensure that children grow to be successful in life, families become financially self-sufficient, the elderly and disabled live independently for as long as possible and citizens reach out to help our community.

Why give?  For only $5 per week, you can provide 52 struggling school children with tutoring or 55 home-delivered meals for a senior citizen or shelter for a family of four who lost their home due to fire.

The United Way is sponsoring a Step Up Challenge Sweepstakes – all previous donors increasing their pledges by at least $1 per week or any new donors contributing at least $1 per week are eligible to participate in the United Way of Southeast Missouri Step-Up Challenge Sweepstakes.
