Vargas Discusses Budget Challenges, AQIP Project, 100,000 Strong in the Americas Program on KRCU

KRCU General Manager Dan Woods recently sat down with Southeast President Carlos Vargas in the latest edition of “Vargas Speaks.”

In this edition, Vargas talks about the University’s FY18 budget and how the University is addressing budget challenges; the University’s recent participation in a Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Strategy Forum Nov. 12-15 and the introduction of a new Academic Quality Improvement Program (AQIP) to understand and enhance employee satisfaction and well-being; and Southeast’s participation in the 100,000 Strong in the Americas program.

He also discusses the new interdisciplinary coursework at Southeast focusing on preparing future health care workers to be culturally competent care professionals, and the Department of Agriculture being awarded a $15,741 Organic Fertilizer and Soil Health Management for Specialty Crops grant from the Missouri Department of Agriculture. The grant will be used to evaluate polysulfate as an organic fertilizer for selected early-season and full-season vegetables and as a soil conditioner to improve soil health.
