CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 23, 2009 – In celebration of the “Week of the Young Child,” a “Messy Morning” is planned for families with young children on Saturday, April 25.
The free event is planned for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Show Me Center. This activity is designed to celebrate the enthusiasm, creativity and energy of young children. Organizations will have booths set up, offering hands-on activities for children, including the hokey pokey, bean bag toss, shaving cream finger painting, manipulatives, arts and crafts, and more.
Messy Morning is a community-wide event to educate families about the resources in the community while also providing interactive activities for the children. The day’s events also will include a pajama drive for Lutheran Family Children Services and a book drive for Parents As Teachers.
The Linda Godwin Center for Science and Math Education, the University Child Enrichment Center, Cape Girardeau Educare, Cape Girardeau Parents as Teachers, University Child Development Center in Sikeston, Community Day School, Child Care Resource and Referral, and Southeast Missouri State University, are sponsoring the event.
Organizations interested in sponsoring a booth are asked to contact Amy Blackman at (573) 290-5135 by Friday, April 3. The booth rental fee is $30, which will be used to support next year’s “Messy Morning.”
