CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Dec. 14, 2010 — The Department of Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University announced today that Emily Welker and Joseph Binkley were named Co-Student Employees of the Month for November.
Welker is a senior from Cape Girardeau and Binkley is a senior from St. Louis. Both are long-time veterans of the department and both are leaving for other academic commitments in December.
Welker, a nursing major who aspires to become an emergency room nurse, has been a head lifeguard since the opening of the Student Aquatic Center (SAQ) in January 2008. She has been instrumental in training other lifeguards, teaching and instructing in CPR classes, and has assisted professional staff in the SAQ for many events.
Binkley, an education major who plans on teaching physics when he graduates and a career as an administrator afterward, is also involved as a residence hall assistant and peer educator. Binkley has been instrumental in the resurgence of the intramural sports program at Southeast.
“His work ethic and ideas will be sorely missed,” said Troy Vaughn, director of Recreation Services. “Congratulations to both of these deserving students.”
