“Winning Teams,” a 27-hour course designed for parents and teachers to promote partnerships for the care and education of children from birth to 6, will be offered throughout the region in February, March and April.
The course will focus on three topics: “Guiding Behavior,” “Nurturing the Young Learner,” and “Learning to Read and Write.” Each three-hour session will be held on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
In the “Guiding Behavior” class, scheduled for Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and March 2, parents and teachers will learn new ideas for responding to challenging behaviors and increase their confidence and competence in helping children learn positive behaviors.
In the “Nurturing the Young Learner,” scheduled for March 9, 16 and 23, parents and teachers will learn developmentally appropriate practices for helping children start school ready to learn.
In the “Learning to Read and Write” class, scheduled for April 13, 20 and 27, parents and teachers will learn how to support the development of children’s early literacy skills, both at home and in child care settings. Classes will be held April 13, 20 and 27.
“Winning Teams” is provided free of charge. Locations for these statewide classes include Barnhart, Hermatite, Pacific, Park Hills, Perryville, Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Portageville, Kennett and Sikeston, Mo. In Cape Girardeau, the course will be offered at the Cape Girardeau Board of Education office at 301 Clark Street. The course is flexible. Participants may attend one or all sessions in the series. Clock hours and Continuing Education Units are available for teachers.
