“Wordsfair: A Celebration of the Arts,” an event to feature student poetry readings, music, theatrical performances and more, is planned for April 24 at Southeast Missouri State University.
The free event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the steps of Kent Library. Wordsfair will feature the talents of Michael Martone, author of The Blue Guide to Indiana and The Flatness and Other Landscapes. Martone will be signing copies of his books after his performance. Dr. Dale Haskell, Southeast professor of English and local musician, will perform works from his album, “Small Items.” Martone’s books and Haskell’s CDs will be available for purchase at the event.
Local talent will include music by members of The Otto Modest, Moodminder, and Red Jacket Mine, and original poetry by Southeast students and members of the local poetry group Prescription Strength Poetry.
Journey student literary magazine, in conjunction with the Department of English, Funding for Results, the Southeast Missouri State University Press, and D.I.C.E., are sponsoring the fair. Refreshments will be available. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place in the same area, but under the portico.
