CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
May 21, 2008 – Elected officials, members of economic development organization boards, volunteers and anyone interested in economic development are encouraged to attend a one-day workshop Friday, May 30, titled “The Fundamentals of Economic Development.”
The Center for Economic and Business Research is hosting the workshop from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Show Me Center at Southeast Missouri State University.
This workshop will offer a series of 35– 45-minute presentations featuring many local speakers who will present an overview of the economic development process similar to the concepts taught to professional economic developers across the nation. Participants will learn the basics of economic development and where to go for assistance.
The Missouri Economic Development Council and the University of Missouri Extension are providing the speakers. Organizations helping sponsor the event are the Southeast Missouri Economic Development Alliance and the Regional Planning and Economic Development Commissions of Southeast Missouri and the Bootheel.
The workshop is made possible through funding by the U.S. Economic Development Administration which designated the Center for Economic and Business Research as a “University Center.”
The cost is only $5, and a continental breakfast and lunch are included. The fee is payable at the door, but individuals must register no later than noon on May 27, by calling (573) 651-2078.
