These students have been participants in the Academy’s Musicianship Classes and private lessons. In class, students learn about music theory, history and composition. Their pieces are written for a variety of mediums including orchestra, piano, voice and guitar. Musicianship Class instructors are Sherrie Troxel and Maria Mizicko. “The Young Composers Concert is my very favorite part of the Music Academy,” said Rebecca Fulgham, Academy director. “It showcases our students’ creativity at the utmost. Learning how to write their very own compositions combines everything they learn in their music studies from learning how to sing or play an instrument, learning music theory and history, to building something original from the bottom up. The most amazing thing is that, often, the students’ compositions are too difficult for them to play, so their teachers perform their pieces for them.”
