CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Sept. 25, 2007 – Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Music will present a solo classical guitar concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall in the Seminary Building at River Campus.
The concert is open to the public and will feature Zane Forshee, an up-and-coming player in the competitive American classical guitar scene. A native of St. Louis, Forshee began his classical guitar studies there while in high school. Following his studies at Webster University, he enrolled in graduate school in the prestigious classical guitar program at the Peabody Conservatory. He holds a master’s degree in music and a graduate performance diploma from Peabody, where he is completing a doctor of musical arts degree in classical guitar. In addition to his studies with Julian Gray at Peabody, Forshee has played in numerous master classes with some of the world’s greatest guitarists including the Assad brothers, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco and Pepe Romero.
Forshee has performed concerts throughout the Midwest and all along the east coast. He recently won first prize in the National Guitar Workshop Solo Competition and first place in the Baltimore Music Club’s String Competition. His new CD features works by Leo Brouwer and Isaac Albeniz, among others. In addition to his active performing career, Forshee is a well-regarded teacher. The Peabody Conservatory recently appointed him to the post of faculty associate, and he just joined the faculty of Frostburg State University in Maryland as professor of guitar.
Forshee is a champion of contemporary music, and his recital at the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts will feature exciting and challenging new works as well as many standard works from the classical guitar repertoire.
In addition to his concert, he will offer a master class for the guitar students in the Department of Music. This class is free and open to the public. For master class information, contact Dr. Jeffrey Noonan at (573) 651-2706 or email@example.com.
