2003 Early Childhood Seminar Features ‘A Little Magic’


Photo of lectureCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 8, 2003 – “Sometimes It Takes a Little Magic” is the title of the 2003 Early Childhood Seminar scheduled for Sept. 6 at Southeast Missouri State University.

Child Care Resource and Referral of Southeast Missouri and Success By 6 of Cape Girardeau are sponsoring the seminar.

Keynote speaker, Jeannie Williams, will ignite the audience with her passion for life and contagious energy. Williams is a prolific author and inspiring motivational speaker. She is a creative communicator and loves entertaining audiences of all ages with her own special blend of humor and story telling. Williams is an accomplished, professional magician and uses her talents and magical creativity as a teaching tool. She will share the story of an American Dreamer – Walt Disney. Disney achieved success through his own hard work and became known as the man behind the magic in the lives of others. Williams’ keynote address will include motivation, attitude, goals, image and creativity.

The seminar will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Dempster Hall. Lunch and break-out sessions will follow the keynote address. Break-out sessions include topics such as disaster preparedness, science, enhancing the sense of wonder, child care as a business, attachment issues, classroom organization, inclusion, reading, topics for center directors and early brain information.

Child Care Resource and Referral/Workshop on Wheels is part of the Missouri Child Care Resource and Referral Network. This agency can assist families in finding child care, provide families and child care professionals with services for children with special needs, and provides training and technical assistance opportunities for child care professionals. Child Care Resource and Referral serves 20 counties of southeast Missouri. Success By 6, an early childhood initiative coordinated by the Area Wide United Way, envisions that all children enter school ready to succeed at their optimum potential. Jim Watkins, local Success By 6 coordinator, emphasized “the importance of parental involvement and awareness of the impact that quality early care and education has on children, families and the community.”
