The renowned and anticipated Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra Commerce Bank Concert Series opens its season with a very special concert featuring Southeast alumna Judith Farris at 8 p.m. Oct. 5 in Academic Auditorium.
This concert, entitled “Beautiful Melodies with Judith Farris,” will feature highlights from opera and Broadway, beginning with beautiful operatic melodies and continuing with some of the most beloved tunes from Broadway. The program will include Handel’s “Water Music,” “Carmen Suite” by Bizet, orchestral selections from “West Side Story” and “The Sound of Music,” as well as opera arias by Handel Saint-Saens, and Menotti.
Farris, celebrated contralto soloist, has been a featured soloist with the country’s finest opera companies and orchestras, including the Santa Fe, Washington, and Fort Worth Opera Companies, and with the New York Philharmonic, the national Symphony, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
“We are trilled that Judith will open our concert season with this moving tribute to the world of song,” said Sara Edgerton, director of the orchestra.
