CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 16, 2005 — The renowned and anticipated Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra Commerce Bank Concert Series opens its season with a very special concert featuring Southeast alumna, Judith Farris, at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4 in Academic Hall Auditorium.
This concert, entitled “Encore! with Judith Farris,” will feature highlights from opera and Broadway, beginning with favorite symphonic works inspired by Spanish and American dance, including Ravel’s masterpiece, “Bolero,” and finishing with a rousing second half of renditions of popular Broadway show tunes.
“We are trilled that Judith will open our concert season with this moving tribute to the world of song,” said Sara Edgerton, director of the Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra.
Farris, celebrated contralto soloist, has been a featured soloist with this country’s finest opera companies and orchestras, including the Santa Fe, Washington and Fort Worth opera companies, and with the New York Philharmonic, the national Symphony, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
