CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Jan. 24, 2005 – The 27th Annual High School Art Symposium opens Jan. 30 in the Southeast Missouri Regional Museum.
An opening reception is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 30.
For the past 27 years, students from high schools in Southern Missouri and Illinois have been invited to submit works for the Annual High School Art Symposium. Thomas McCune, a Perryville, Mo., native, Southeast alumnus and retired teacher, will serve as this year’s juror. He graduated from Southeast in 1977 with a bachelor of fine arts degree and in 1981 with a master of arts degree.
McCune will select works and award prizes in seven categories — ceramics, drawing, fibers, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.
Last year, students from schools located throughout the Missouri Bootheel, St. Louis, and Southern Illinois submitted over 800 works for consideration.
The exhibit will remain on display through Feb. 27. The Southeast Missouri Regional Museum is located in Memorial Hall on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
