Tornado Warning and SE Alerts System Being Tested at Noon Wednesday, April 1

Even in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, communities are not immune from the threat of severe weather and tornadic activity as witnessed over the weekend in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Southeast will test its tornado warning siren system and SE Alerts notification system at noon Wednesday, April 1. Employees using VPN to remote into their work computer will see a test message from the desktop notification system (Alertus) appear on their screen at noon if their work computer is connected to the University’s local area network. Employees who are not remoted into their work computer during the duration of the test, will not see the message. In the event of severe weather, the test will be postponed. The Cities of Cape Girardeau and Jackson, along with Cape Girardeau County, also will conduct their regularly scheduled drill on Wednesday, April 1, at noon to ensure that all storm sirens are operating properly. Even if you are working remotely at home, please use this time to prepare yourself and others for a severe weather event. For more information on SE Alerts, visit semo.edu/sealerts. For faculty and staff to verify and update their contact information for SE Alerts, follow these instructions.
