Collaborative Efforts to Enhance Student Success Focus of Feb. 26 Brown Bag Lunch

A University update on collaborative efforts across campus to enhance student success will be the focus of a Brown Bag Lunch scheduled for noon on Feb. 26 in Academic Hall Auditorium. Students, faculty and staff are invited. Chartwells will provide brown bag lunches at the noon meeting for $1 for those who placed advance orders. Attendees may also bring their own brown bag lunch. Please arrive by 11:45 a.m. to get lunch and be seated in the auditorium before the program begins.

Southeast Participating in Statewide Tornado Drill March 3

As a part of Severe Weather Awareness Month in March, Southeast will participate in the 2020 Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 3, at 10 a.m. In case of widespread severe weather, the drill will be postponed until Thursday, March 5, also at 10 a.m. The drill will begin when initiated by the National Weather Service. Southeast will deploy its warning sirens along with an SE Alerts text message and email that points to safety tips and severe weather guidance. Students, faculty and staff will receive an email on Monday, March 2, as a reminder of Tuesday’s scheduled drill.

Tickets on Sale for Southeast Day at Busch 2020

Southeast Day at Busch 2020 will be Sunday, May 31, as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 1:15 p.m. game. Theme tickets for this game are available throughout the stadium. They may be purchased at www.cardinals.com/semo and include a Cardinals/Redhawks co-branded theme hat. Attendees can pick up hats and are invited to join Southeast alumni, staff and friends in the Budweiser Terrace area of Busch Stadium for a pre-game gathering from 11:15 a.m.-1:15 p.m., hosted by the Alumni Association.

Parking Lot Closed During Construction of New Newman Center

Catholic Campus Ministries will build a new John Henry Newman Center on their existing location at 512 N. Pacific Street. During the construction, Parking Lot 2-9, located on the corner of Pacific Street and Normal Avenue next to the current Catholic Campus Ministries building, will be closed beginning Monday, March 16, and will remain off-line during construction of a new Newman Center. Project completion is anticipated for late summer to early fall 2021. Alternate parking is available in Parking Lot 1-25, faculty and staff parking behind Grauel Building, and Parking Lot 1-18, located behind Dearmont on College Hill. For a map of campus parking locations, click here.  From March 1-15, activity in Parking Lot 2-9 will increase during the relocation of offices and daily activities of the Newman Center to temporary facilities at 902 College Hill. The Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning continues the "Take-Away Friday" series of faculty development presentations at noon Feb. 28 in the Jean Ann Whitaker Model Classroom in the EDvolution Center, Scully Room 209. "OER Is Not A Textbook; It's A State of Mind" will be presented by Stephanie Hallam, education information librarian, and Kris Baranovic, instructional design specialist. Often faculty look to Open Educational Resources (OER) to address textbook issues. OERs become very powerful when paired with the proper activities. SEMO AAUP Hosting Meetings on Rewards, Challenges of Part-Time Faculty

Following a successful meeting last semester in examining the rewards and challenges of regular non-tenure track (RNTT) and part-time (adjunct) faculty at Southeast, the SEMO Chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) will host a series of spring semester meetings on the same topic on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m., March 27 at 2:30 p.m. and April 8 at noon. All meetings will be held in Kent Library Room 311. The agenda of the first two meetings is a discussion of AAUP policy towards regular non-tenure track (RNTT) and part-time (adjunct) faculty and the situation faced by them at Southeast and other timely matters. A draft report of the results of these meetings and possible recommendations for improving the situation of regular non-tenure track (RNTT) and part-time (adjunct) faculty will be presented for discussion and approval. All faculty are invited to attend.

'Leap into 2020' Exhibit Explores African American History in Missouri

The Department of History and Anthropology's Diversity Committee, in collaboration with Special Collections and Archives and the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, will host the "Leap into 2020: A Celebration of African American History in Missouri" exhibition Feb. 28 from noon-2 p.m. in the University Center Program Lounge. The program will feature historical exhibits, historians, archivists and other experts. Pizza and refreshments will also be available in the University Center third floor lobby.
