Southeast Participating in Statewide Tornado Drill March 3

As a part of Severe Weather Awareness Month in March, Southeast will participate in the 2020 Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 3, at 10 a.m. In case of widespread severe weather, the drill will be postponed until Thursday, March 5, also at 10 a.m. The drill will begin when initiated by the National Weather Service. Southeast will deploy its warning sirens along with an SE Alerts text message and email that point to safety tips and severe weather guidance. Students, faculty and staff will receive an email on Monday, March 2, as a reminder of Tuesday’s scheduled drill.

Southeast Students Participate in Missouri Governor’s Student Leadership Forum

Five Southeast Missouri State University students were among 98 college students who participated in the 33rd Annual Missouri Governor’s Student Leadership Forum on Faith and Values Feb. 14-16 in Jefferson City, Missouri. Faculty/Staff Portrait Day is March 3

The next Portrait Day is scheduled for March 3 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the River Campus Cultural Arts Center atrium, for faculty and staff members wishing to have a portrait-style photograph taken for departmental Web pages or other publications. No appointments are necessary. Additional Portrait Days this semester will be April 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Kent Library, third floor; and May 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Magill Hall second floor lounge.

College of STEM Hosting Free 'Introduction to High Performance Computing' Workshop March 16

The College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics will host a free, one-day workshop titled "Introduction to High Performance Computing" from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. March 16 in Magill Hall Room 226. Computation has become an essential part of research in the 21st century and spans all disciplines--from science to digital humanities. This workshop, led by Great Plains Network representative Carrie Brown and Dr. Marcus Bond, Southeast professor of chemistry, will teach the fundamentals of accessing and using High Performance Computing systems, including the local cluster and the Lewis cluster at the University of Missouri. This workshop will prepare attendees for remote use of the new $1.9 million National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded supercomputer Missouri S&T is building, and for which Southeast is a member of the user consortium. 21st Century Leadership Academy Seeking Female Student Applicants

Faculty and staff are encouraged to invite female students to consider applying for the upcoming 21st Century Leadership Academy, sponsored by the Sue Shear Institute for Public Life, at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, May 18-22. Academy participants will learn how to influence and shape public policy, practice leadership skills and build self-confidence by meeting with inspirational women leaders. Southeast's Women in Public Life Program will accept four female student applicants. Costs to attend the institute are nominal and include transportation costs and any personal, out of pocket expenses. Room and board will be subsidized by the University.
