'Take-Away Friday' Continues on Feb. 21 with Steps to Adopting an OER

The Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning continues the "Take-Away Friday" series of faculty development presentations at noon Feb. 21 in the Jean Ann Whitaker Model Classroom in the EDvolution Center, Scully Room 209. "I'm Interested in Using OER. Now What?" will be presented by Stephanie Hallam, education information librarian, and Kris Baranovic, instructional design specialist. This session will walk through the process of adopting an Open Educational Resource (OER), if that has become the best option, and will focus on publishers, pirated test banks and inaccurate information, and finding the right instructional materials.

Center for Writing Excellence Presents WID Workshop Feb. 27

The Center for Writing Excellence announces the next workshop for the Writing in the Disciplines (WID) program. "Now You’re Writing My Language: WID and Second Language Writers, Part II" presented by Dr. Sarah Dietrich, assistant professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), will be held from noon-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, in the University Center Heritage Room. This interdisciplinary event is open to all faculty and staff, and lunch will be provided. Fiber Arts Meet Up is Feb. 21

The University and local communities are welcome to the Fiber Arts Meet Up Feb. 21, from 1-3 p.m. During the event, hosted by the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum and Emily Denlinger, professor and area head of digital art, participants are encouraged to bring their knitting, embroidery, felting, spinning, crocheting or book making projects to work on and share with the group. Athletics Having a Monster Year

The Southeast Missouri Department of Athletics is having a massive year in 2019-2020. With its basketball doubleheader sweep of Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville on Saturday, Feb. 15, the Redhawks now have 44 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) wins, their most ever in a season between fall and winter sports. Southeast won regular season titles in football and women's soccer, made the NCAA Playoffs in football, and won the OVC Tournament crown and made the NCAA Tournament in volleyball last fall. Southeast's women's basketball team is presently tied for first in the OVC and carries an 11-game winning streak into its final four regular-season contests.

Baseball Heads to Kentucky Today

The Redhawk baseball team heads to Southeastern Conference member University of Kentucky-Lexington for its first midweek game of the season today, Feb. 18.

Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) co-leader Southeast Missouri hits the road to face Jacksonville State University on Thursday, Feb. 20. Ellis Named OVC Co-Player of the Week

Senior first baseman Ashley Ellis was named Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Co-Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 17. Ellis hit four home runs in four games during the Troy University Tournament (Feb. 14-16). She hit .375 (6-for-16) with six runs scored, a double and 10 RBI. Ellis also boasted a 1.188 slugging percentage for the Redhawks.
