Redhawks Kids Camp Almost Full

Recreation Services is offering 10 weeks of Redhawk Kids Camp for children entering grades K-6 next fall. Several weeks are almost full. Parents interested in signing up their child are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. There will be no walk up registrations for Redhawks Kids Camp this summer. Employee Assistance Plan Provider Offering Free Smoking and Tobacco Cessation Class

E4 Health, the University's employee assistance plan provider, will be offering a free smoking and tobacco cessation coaching session from 2-3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 1, in the Show Me Center North Meeting Room. Baseball Opens OVC Tournament Play Today

The fifth-seeded Southeast Missouri baseball team opens play in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament against fourth-seeded Jacksonville State today. Athletics Posts Strong Numbers for 2016-2017 Academic Year

Southeast's Department of Athletics recorded a cumulative 3.20 grade point average (GPA) for the 2016-2017 academic year. Women's tennis paved the way with a 3.79 cumulative GPA, while women's cross country and women's soccer followed close behind with 3.75 and 3.70 marks, respectively. In all, 210 student-athletes finished with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA, including 12 with a 4.0 and 107 at 3.5 or better. That total reflects 64.2 percent of the entire student-athlete population. Additionally, the Redhawks raised their grade point average from 3.03 in the fall to 3.14 this past spring. During the spring semester alone, the Redhawks had nine programs post a 3.25 or better GPA, including women's cross country (3.76), women's tennis (3.67), women's soccer (3.59), volleyball (3.52), softball (3.462), women's basketball (3.461), gymnastics (3.45), baseball (3.299) and women's track and field (3.296).

Six Redhawks Earn All-OVC Honors

A total of six Redhawks were named to the All-OVC baseball teams, the league announced on Tuesday, May 23. Outfielder Dan Holst headlined the awards, picking up First Team All-OVC honors. Catcher Brian Lees, outfielder Chris Osborne, and starting pitchers Justin Murphy and Clay Chandler earned second-team accolades. Freshman second baseman Danny Wright claimed a spot on the All-Freshman Team.

Holst Named OVC Player of the Week

Senior outfielder Dan Holst was named the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday, May 22. Holst paced the Redhawks during their weekend sweep of Eastern Kentucky, hitting .429 while driving in nine runs. He had two hits and scored two runs in all three games. Holst recorded a career-high six RBIs and hit a grand slam in the series opener. He homered again in the final game of the regular-season, this time with a two-run shot.

Anderson Garners NFCA All-Region Honors

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced that 667 student-athletes from 175 programs have received 2017 NFCA Division I All-Region accolades. Southeast Missouri freshman center fielder Rachel Anderson secured Second-Team All-Mideast Region honors. The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third team selections. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to the 2017 NFCA Division I All-American squads.

Five Redhawks to Participate in NCAA West Prelims

Five Southeast Missouri athletes will compete at the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships Preliminary competition. The Redhawks will participate in the NCAA West Prelim at the University of Texas May 25-27. Miya Dorsey, Kayla Gutierrez, Zach Gordon, Christian Locke and Brannon Wright represent Southeast. Those able to place in the top-12 of their region’s preliminary competition will advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, June 7-10.
