West End Blvd. from Broadway to Bessie Closed Today for Repairs

City of Cape Girardeau contractors were unable to complete the planned street repairs on West End Blvd last Thursday. So today, Wednesday, May 23, city contractors have closed the southbound lane of West End Blvd. between Broadway and Bessie Street for repairs. The closure is expected to last through 5 p.m., depending upon the work and weather. Detours will be available, and motorist are asked to consider alternate routes. Also, motorists are urged to use caution in all work zones.

Openings Still Available for 2018 Redhawks Kids Camp

Redhawks Kids Camp is a very active day camp, full of fun games, activities, water activities and swimming designed for children entering grades 1-6 in the fall of 2018. Specific activities vary each day, and theme weeks all lend to a fun camp. Southeast students serve as camp counselors and have the energy to match the campers. Camps are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. May 29-June 1; June 4-8; June 11-15; June 18-22; and June 25-29; and July 2-3; July 5-6; July 9-13; July 16-20; July 23-27; and July 30-Aug 3. Campers must have completed kindergarten and may not have started sixth grade. PAW Patrol LIVE! "Race to the Rescue" comes to the Show Me Center at 6 p.m. Nov.9, 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 10, and 2 p.m. Nov. 11. Baseball Redhawks Open OVC Tournament Play Today

The second-seeded Southeast Missouri baseball team opens postseason play against #7 Murray State in the first round of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament today. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Alabama. All games are broadcast live on the radio at ESPN 92.9 FM. Video can be accessed live online at the OVC Digital Network. Four Redhawks Compete at NCAA West Region Prelims This Week

Marc Maton (1500m), Stephen Zagurski (hammer), Jonno Engelking (javelin) and Richard Vinson (javelin) will compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track & Field West Region preliminary competition this week. Zagurski (2 p.m.) and Maton (7:30 p.m.) will compete on Thursday, May 24, while Engelking and Vinson (noon) are scheduled to compete on Saturday, May 26. Volleyball, Women's Cross Country Win NCAA Public Recognition Awards

Southeast Missouri’s volleyball and women’s cross country programs earned NCAA Public Recognition awards based on their most recent multiyear Academic Progress Rates. These teams have earned NCAA Public Recognition Awards for posting scores in the top 10 percent of their sport. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The Redhawk volleyball and women’s cross country teams claimed the honor for the third-straight year.

Athletics Enjoys Strong Spring Semester in the Classroom

Seventy-one percent of Southeast’s student-athlete population recorded a 3.0 or higher grade point average (GPA) during the spring 2018 semester. A total of 51 student-athletes posted a 4.0 GPA, while 85 others had GPAs ranging between 3.5 and 3.99. Departmentally, the Redhawks achieved a 3.15 GPA for the spring term. In all, nine different teams finished with a team GPA above 3.1.
