FY20 Budget, Health Insurance, Benefits, Recruitment and Retention Topics at President's Brown Bag Lunch Nov. 7

The President's Office will hold a Brown Bag Lunch at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Academic Hall Auditorium. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend as President Vargas leads a discussion on the FY2020 budget timeline, heath insurance and benefits, and provides FY2019 and FY2020 recruitment and retention updates. Attendees may pick up their preordered brown bag lunch from Chartwells before the presentation or bring their own lunch.

2019 Annual Benefits Open Enrollment Ends Friday, Nov. 9

Human Resources reminds employees that the 2019 Annual Benefits Open Enrollment period ends Friday, Nov. 9. All regular, full-time and part-time employees should enroll via the University portal using Banner Self Service. Walk-in open labs for those needing assistance with processing their online benefits enrollment are scheduled from 2-4 p.m. today, Nov. 6, 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, and 1:30-3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8. All open labs will be in Dempster Hall Room 003 (lower level). Questions concerning enrollment should be directed to Human Resources at (573) 651-2206.

Take-Away Friday' Continues Nov. 9 with 'Teaching to Diverse Learners'

The "Take-Away Friday" series of faculty development workshops presents “How to Get Students Talking in Class and Keep Them Talking” at noon Nov. 9 in the Jean Ann Whitaker Model Classroom in the EDvolution Center in Scully Building Room 209. This week, the Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning hosts Dr. Sarah Dietrich, assistant professor of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages in the Department of English, who will outline how to establish active student participation early and maintain it through activities, assessments and gentle coercion. Faculty/Staff Portrait Day Nov. 14

The next Portrait Day is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 in the River Campus Cultural Arts Center atrium, for faculty and staff members wishing to have a portrait-style photograph taken for departmental Web pages or other publications. No appointments are necessary. The final Portrait Day for this semester will be Dec. 13 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Magill Hall, second floor lounge.

Art Guild Holding Annual Show, Sale and Chili Cook-Off Nov. 8

The Art Guild's Annual Show and Sale will take place from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the River Campus Cultural Arts Center atrium. The show and sale will feature ceramics, prints, shirts and more all made by Southeast students.  Bowls can be purchased for $10 or more during the sale for unlimited chili and desserts at the Chili Cook-Off. The Chili Cook-Off begins at 6 p.m. in the Glenn Convocation Center and will be judged by Chef Lisa Essmyer, instructor of hospitality management. For more information, click here.

The Body in Art Topic of Catapult 'After Hours' Event Nov. 8

"Paint as Flesh” will be the topic of the second fall lecture of the "After Hours: Conversations on Art and Culture" series Nov. 8 at Catapult Creative House. The lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the classroom at Catapult, 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau. Members of the panel will be Justin Miller, assistant professor of scenic design at Southeast, and Chris Beaty, a 2016 Southeast graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. They will discuss the evolution of paint and depiction of the human form in art. This panel discussion may include sensitive topics and explicit language.

Three Redhawks Earn All-OVC Honors

Southeast Missouri junior Esmie Gonzales and freshmen Morgan McCourt and Bailey Redden were named to the 2018 All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Women’s Soccer teams on Thursday, Nov. 1. Gonzales earned first-team accolades, while McCourt and Redden garnered all-newcomer accolades.

Wehrheim Named OVC Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week

Southeast Missouri outside hitter Annie Wehrheim was tabbed Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week, the league announced on Monday, Nov. 5. Wehrheim led the Redhawks with 40 total kills (5.00 kills/set) on a .260 hitting clip in two matches last weekend as SEMO posted a 2-0 record with wins over SIUE and Eastern Illinois.
