McGill Honored with PRIDE Award at Faculty Development Day

Dr. Jim McGill, professor of chemistry and director of the Jane Stephens Honors Program at Southeast Missouri State University, was honored with the 2018 PRIDE Award during the University’s Faculty Development Day today. McGill was honored for exemplifying the teacher/scholar model. He was selected for the PRIDE Award by the Council of Deans after nominations were solicited from each of the University’s colleges and schools. This is the 22nd year Southeast has presented the PRIDE Award.

Deadline Jan. 14 for Dependent Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Fee Waiver Applications

New fee waiver and dependent tuition applications for the Spring 2019 semester must be submitted no later than the first day of classes for the Spring semester, Jan. 14. Dependent tuition reimbursement for both Spring and Winter sessions will be made after spring grades have been processed. Fee waivers for employees should be submitted online no later than the first day of classes for each semester. Dependent Tuition Reimbursement applications for the 2019 academic year that were submitted by the deadline in August 2018 are valid through the end of the Summer 2019 semester. To submit an online application, log on to the Southeast portal, click on the Employee SS tab, and then click on the appropriate application link under the Human Resources heading. Redhawks Rank #15 and #16 in Final FCS Polls

Following its 9-4 season, which included a second-round appearance in the NCAA Division I Football Championship for the first time in school history, Southeast Missouri ranked #15 (STATS Media) and #16 (AFCA Coaches) in the final 2018 Football Championship Subdivision Polls on Monday, Jan. 7. SEMO finished second in the Ohio Valley Conference with a record of 6-2 in league play and went undefeated at home (6-0) for the first time in eight years. The Redhawks hosted and won a playoff game for the first time in program history when they upended #15 Stony Brook, 28-14, on Nov. 24.

Hall Wins 2018 Buck Buchanan, ADA FCS Defensive Player of the Year Awards

Southeast Missouri junior linebacker Zach Hall became the first player in school history to win the 2018 STATS Buck Buchanan National Defensive Player of the Year and Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Defensive Player of the Year awards. Hall was presented with the Buck Buchanan Award at the FCS Awards Banquet on Friday, Jan. 4, and received a plaque for the ADA FCS Award after the first quarter of the FCS Championship game on Saturday, Jan. 5.

Forbes, Hall, Terry, Custis Named to Phil Steel All-America Teams

Southeast Missouri offensive tackle Drew Forbes, running back Marquis Terry, linebacker Zach Hall, and return specialist Zion Custis were named to the 2018 Phil Steele Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-America Teams. Forbes, also named the Offensive Lineman of the Year by the publication, earned first-team honors, while Terry secured third-team accolades. Hall was a first-team selection on defense and Custis claimed the only first-team honor by an Ohio Valley Conference freshman on special teams.

St. Louis Cardinals' Fredbird Coming to Southeast

The St. Louis Cardinals very own Fredbird will be at the Show Me Center serving as the guest mascot this Saturday, Jan. 12, during the Southeast Missouri men's and women's basketball games. Tip-off for the women's basketball game against Murray State is set for 2 p.m., followed by the men's basketball against Murray State at 4:30 p.m. Fredbird will be available for autographs and pictures between the games. Fredbird is filling in for Southeast's Rowdy, who is recovering from a T-shirt cannon accident on Christmas, and is currently out.
