Faculty/Staff Portrait Day Jan. 30

The next Portrait Day is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in the Magill Hall second floor lounge, for faculty and staff members wishing to have a portrait-style photograph taken for departmental Web pages or other publications. No appointments are necessary. Additional Portrait Days this semester will be Feb.12, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Kent Library, third floor; March 4, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the River Campus Cultural Arts Center atrium; April 4, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in Kent Library, third floor; and May 1, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Magill Hall second floor lounge.

'Take-Away Friday' Continues Feb. 1 with 'OER, Fair Use, and How to Not Thieve' 

The Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning (CSTL) continues the ‘Take-Away Friday’ series of faculty development presentations on Feb. 1 at noon in the Jean Ann Whitaker Model Classroom in the EDvolution Center, Scully Room 209. “OER, Fair Use, and How to Not Thieve" is a part of CSTL’s “Love OER Month.” The lecture will be presented by Stephanie Hallam, assistant professor and education information librarian, and Kris Baranovic, instructional design specialist with CSTL. This session will discuss the details of the difference between using a freely available resource for class and an Open Educational Resource (OER). University Marketing Offering Web Editor Training Feb. 4

The University website attracts thousands of visits every day from prospective students, parents, faculty, staff and community members. University Marketing is offering web editor training from 9-10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 4, in the Kent Library Room 110 Training Lab. In this training, participants will learn how to use the OUCampus CMS to edit department websites to keep information accurate, promote the University brand and provide a positive user experience with emphasis on recruitment. Kent Athenaeum Series Features 'The Rhetoric of the Senses: Creativity Through the Lens of Chefs and Writers' Jan. 30

Faculty and staff are invited to the Kent Library Athenaeum Lecture Series on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at noon in Sadie’s Place for “The Rhetoric of the Senses: Creativity Through the Lens of Chefs and Writers.” This presentation by Dr. Missy Nieveen Phegley, professor of English and director of composition and assessment, and Chef Lisa Essmyer, instructor of hospitality management, will begin with a discussion of creativity and each discipline’s relationship between the senses and the body of work that discipline produces. Phegley and Essmyer will also provide an opportunity for the audience to participate in sensory exercises and examine the role they play in experiences that lead to nostalgic connections and traditions. This event is free and open to the public.

Discount tickets are available for the 21st Annual Jazz Gala Festival Concert, presented by the Southeast Jazz Lab and Studio Ensembles at the River Campus on Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $2 off of each ticket purchased, and a maximum of two tickets may be purchased.
