Recruitment, Student Success to be Discussed at President's Brown Bag Lunch May 1

The President’s Office will hold a Brown Bag Lunch at noon on Wednesday, May 1, in Academic Hall Auditorium. Students, faculty and staff are invited to this meeting led by President Carlos Vargas where recruitment and student success will be discussed. Chartwells will provide brown bag lunches at the noon meeting for $1. Please designate the type of sandwich you would like — ham, roast beef, turkey or vegetarian. Chips, whole fruit, a cookie and a drink also will be provided. All University Judicial Board Applications Due April 30

The Office of Student Conduct (OSC) is currently seeking outstanding students to serve on the All University Judicial Board (AUJB) for the 2019-2020 academic year. The OSC is specifically looking for applicants who are educationally oriented, honest and fair-minded. The application and position description are available online on the OSC website under the "Judicial Board" tab at http://www.semo.edu/stuconduct/. Facilities Management Continuing to Address Decreased Cooling Capacity on North Campus

Facilities Management is continuing to address a decrease in building cooling capacity for the majority of the buildings on the North side of campus. Repairs continue but additional parts are required from the manufacturer in order to fully complete the repair. The chilled water system is currently operating with one smaller chiller. Submissions for Convocation/SE 101 Packets Due July 10

To help welcome new Redhawks to campus, New Student Programs will provide students attending Convocation and SE 101 sessions on Aug. 16 with a folder full of information from various campus departments that will assist them in their transition to campus and make them aware of available opportunities. Examples of past items have included coupons, colorful flyers and bookmarks. All included items should have mass appeal to new students. College of Education, Health and Human Studies Hosting Retirement Reception May 1

The College of Education, Health and Human Studies will host a retirement reception at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, in the University Center Ballroom B. The honorees will be Dr. Mary Elizabeth Ambery, associate professor of child and family studies; Dr. Marcia Brown Haims, chair of the Department of Communication Disorders; Dr. Rita Fisher, director of Southeast's Regional Professional Development Center; Dr. Diana Rogers-Adkinson, dean of Southeast's College of Education, Health and Human Studies; and Linda Shirrell, nurse with Southeast's Horizons Enrichment Center. Student Financial Services Announces Payment iPads Available for Checkout, Venmo Not Permitted

Student Financial Services (SFS) has two iPads available for checkout, allowing credit or debit card payments to be accepted for approved University events or revenue. Departments that wish to check out a device must complete the annual compliance training prior to use. Additionally, SFS and the Controller remind the Southeast community that University funds should not be collected or moved using Venmo, ApplePay Cash or other non-approved methods. To check out an iPad or for more information about approved methods to collect revenue, contact eozenkoski@semo.edu.

Faculty, Staff Portrait Day May 2

The last Portrait Day of the spring semester is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on May 2 in the Magill Hall second floor lounge for faculty and staff members wishing to have a portrait-style photograph taken for departmental Web pages or other publications. No appointments are necessary. Please note, the last Portrait Day was originally scheduled for May 1 and has been rescheduled to May 2.

Fermentation as Art Topic of April 29 'After Hours'

"Fermentation as Art," a discussion about how brewing has its roots in the magical and misunderstood world of fermentation, will be the focus of the April 29 installment of the "After Hours: Conversations on Art and Culture" series at Southeast's Catapult Creative House. DeWayne Schaaf, executive chef at Ebb and Flow Fermentations in Cape Girardeau, will talk about how over the past few hundred years there has been a trend towards replication and precision. He and others are pushing back with an eye (or tongue) towards the beauty of nature, taking back some control and using beer as an artistic vehicle that changes with time. The lecture is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the classroom at Catapult, 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau. This event is free and open to the public.
