Southeast to be Closed July 4-5 for Independence Day Holiday

Due to the Independence Day holiday, Southeast Missouri State University offices will be closed, and face-to-face classes will not be in session on Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5.

Southeast President Carlos Vargas today announced that in addition to the Thursday, July 4, federal holiday, Southeast will also observe Friday, July 5, as a designated University holiday.

“The Fourth of July is a time to remember the freedoms we share and to thank our veterans and active duty military who selflessly have made our freedom possible,” Vargas said. “I wish everyone a very happy and safe Fourth of July and hope the designated holiday on July 5 gives our employees an extra day to enjoy time with family and friends.”

Observing July 5 as a designated University holiday in 2019 is a unique situation because Independence Day falls on a Thursday. This will not be the case in 2020 when July 4 will fall on a Friday, Vargas said.

Due to the holidays next week, all payroll checks can be picked up in Human Resources on Wednesday, July 3, in Academic Hall, Room 012 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.  All payroll direct deposits will still be deposited on Friday, July 5. If you have questions, please contact Human Resources at ext. 2206.

In addition, the Student Recreation Center (SRC) and the Student Aquatic Center will be open on Friday, July 5. Hours of operation for the SRC will be 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Student Aquatic Center hours will be 5:30-7 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.

Following the holiday weekend, Southeast offices will reopen, and the University will resume its regular summer class schedule at 8 a.m. Monday, July 8.
