Center for Speech and Hearing Receives United Way Grant

The Center for Speech and Hearing will be a Funded Partner with United Way of Southeast Missouri (UWSEMO) for 2019-2022 to support the mission of assisting individuals in the community to obtain financial independence. The Center, part of the Department of Communication Disorders, has served the southeast Missouri region since 1985. The Center supports UWSEMO’s mission by providing affordable services to individuals with speech, language, swallowing or hearing disorders, who often face significant educational and vocational challenges, leading to decreased earnings potential and reduced employment opportunities. The cost of healthcare also limits access to services. With therapy, individuals can develop strategies to compensate for communication deficits.  For more information, contact Amy Herren, MS, CCC-SLP, at aherren@semo.edu or (573) 651-2050.
