'Food Truck Friday in Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month' Tonight

Enjoy the flavors of Cape Girardeau’s food trucks and local favorite eateries while celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with live entertainment and local artists from 5-8 p.m. tonight, Sept. 20, in the Rust Center for Media’s south parking lot, located at 325 Broadway. A portion of all proceeds will help endow the "Brindando Educacion con Acceso,” or Believing Everyone Can Achieve (BECA) Hispanic/Latino Scholarship. Athenaeum Series Presents 'Old McKendree and 200 Years of Methodism in Cape Girardeau County' 

Kent Library's Athenaeum Lecture Series will present "Old McKendree and 200 Years of Methodism in Cape Girardeau County" at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 25, in Sadie's Place in Kent Library. The presentation will be given by Mary Harriet Talbut, interim director of Southeast's Center for Scholarship in Teaching and Learning and president of the McKendree Chapel Memorial Association. Talbut will discuss the history of the Chapel, located on the outskirts of Jackson, Missouri, from its construction in 1819 to the present. In the past 200 years, the Chapel, named after William McKendree, the first native-born bishop of the Methodist Church in America, has witnessed a congregational split over slavery, numerous camp meetings spreading Methodism throughout the region, and is recognized as the oldest standing Protestant church west of the Mississippi River.

Crisp Museum Hosting Fiber Arts Meet Up Today

The Southeast and local communities are welcome at the Fiber Arts Meet Up today, Sept. 20, from 1-3 p.m. The group will be meeting once a month during the school year. During the event, hosted by the Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Museum and Emily Denlinger, professor and area head of digital art, participants are encouraged to bring their knitting, embroidery, felting, spinning, crocheting or book binding projects to work on and share with the group.
